I love that I can work from home. I know a lot of people find it distracting and prefer to have an office or separate workspace away from their bedroom, but those of us living in NYC and a little tight on space have to make the best of our bedroom workspaces!
I wanted to give you guys a mini-tour of my Fashion Hotbox “Headquarters” today AKA the desk in my room. Things can get hectic working on maintaining this blog, attending (or not attending) business school classes at Columbia, and balancing an internship at a private equity firm, so I need ALL the good juju and relaxation I can get. Because I’m short on time, I have to settle for incorporating some good ‘ol mind and body practices into my workspace, and that’s where my Chesapeake Bay Candle collection comes in handy! I swear, these candles smell like happy vibes in a jar and I literally carry them around the house with me sometimes just to be surrounded by their happy little candle auras.
My workspace is minimalist and simple–I wanted an all-white look with minimal distractions, and of course use my Mind + Body candle collection and my crystals as accents that both look pretty and feel nice to have near me when I’m feeling stressed. I got the two pieces of clear quartz from my grandfather’s crystal and geological collections. I was very close to him, and although he passed away some time ago, they remind me of him and also serve as amplifiers of energy and intention. I am quite spiritual and I like having crystals with healthy metaphysical properties around me while I work–I feel like I am being watched over a little bit!
Peace + Tranquility Large Jar Candle | Clear Quartz + Rose Quartz Crystals
These candles are the perfect compliment to my quartz stones–they are designed to help achieve a state of balance and peace, and the fragrances I have all have unique calming properties. The Peace + Tranquility Jar Candle is my personal favorite–its fragrance, “Cashmere Jasmine” literally exudes relaxation. Its white color represents a symbol of purity and tranquility for a safe environment, and the soy wax candle blend ensures a “clean” burn. My second favorite is the Joy + Laughter Jar Candle, with a “Cranberry Dahlia” scent. It sounds weird, but it actually smells like its name plus a sip of wine. I usually burn this one in the morning when I’m trying to get myself started with my day, and end the day with my Peace + Tranquility Candle. The last and smallest candle on my desk, Reflection + Clarity, smells like a spa to me. I weirdly take this to the bathroom to shower with because it makes me feel like I’m at a luxury bath house or something, but I keep it on my desk normally because it doesn’t like to be separated from its mates!
The way I have set up my workspace is ultimately really conducive to both getting my grind on and feeling relaxed and peaceful. I find myself feeling more excited and passionate about my work, rather than stressed and panicky all the time. Having it all together and organized on the outside really does help you feel better on the inside (at least when it comes to your desk space)! A messy workspace will lead to a messy and unproductive day for me. Try to surround yourself with things that make you feel good and relax you–whether they are candles, crystals, pictures of loved ones, or childhood trinkets. I swear–it helps you feel motivated, comfortable and excited about what you’re doing all at the same time.
If you’re feeling inspired by my mind + body candle collection, checkout the different fragrance options here and let me know which ones are your favorite! I’m always looking to add to my collection.
OMG, I’m turning into a candle lady.
